PAST ACTIVITIES in May:
Saturday, May 3: One Day Avair ~ The weather did not cooperate with us but we did have a nice turnout which gave us time to chat & to socialize with members from other clubs. We also got a bit of a preview of what was coming at the Convention.
Thanks to all who participated. Thanks to the Rainbow Restaurant, Thanks to Dave for handling the Insurance & Porta Potty!
Tuesday ~ Friday, May 20~23: 54th National Corvair Convention ~ This is the first Nation Wide convention that has been held on the West Coast since 2014 (Washington) and the first one to be held in So. Cal. Since 2008 (Ventura, 17 years ago!). It was attended by 390+ Corvair enthusiasts and our Club(s) were well represented by 13 SDCC/Coyote members.
A good time was had by all with complimentary breakfasts & ‘Happy Hours’ and a few ‘unofficial’ events!
Paul racked up First in the Autocross (chased closely by Ken Burton) in their Class, SS2 (Street Stock 2) both coming in under 86 seconds! Good job guys!
Paul also scored well receiving a Silver rating in the Concourse d’Elegance event along with Scott Akrie getting an Honorable Mention!
Bill Muno’s rampside & matching ‘ride-around’ cart were a hit as was Jon & Carol’s good ol’ hippie van!
Some other highlights of the convention:
· One couple who drove their 1964 Spyder all of the way from Daytona Beach Fla., won the Longest Drive award, the Road Rally and received a Gold status score of 96.19 in the Concourse d’Elegance!
· A Pete Borchart of Prescott, Az. brought his unrestored 1963 Monza and was recognized for his ‘Factory Stock Original, with reportedly only 800 original miles!
· Paul Majckrzak purchased a “Unicorn Carburetor”…You’ll have to ask him about that!

AND on June 29th we will have a Sunday Cruise through the North County countryside with a final meetup at Hernandez’s Hideaway. <Details & Map to follow!>
FUTURE UPCOMING ACTIVITIES:
Be sure to add this one to your Calendar: The SDCC has purchased a “Club Area” at Encinitas “Cruise Night” for Thursday July 17 5:30~7:30pm. This area will accommodate up to 15 vehicles and SDCC & Coyote Club members’ Corvairs will be free! So let’s fill the area up with our beautiful Corvairs!
